Sending AT Commands

Minicom is a text-based serial port communications program.
You can send AT commands to Sixfab Shield /HATs using Minicom.

minicom image altminicom image alt

Install minicom

Install the program with:

sudo apt-get install minicom

Using the minicom

In order to find the name of your port(s) enter this command in terminal:

dmesg | grep tty

ports image altports image alt

Send Command

Type to send AT command to HAT via ttyUSB3:

sudo minicom -b 115200 -D /dev/ttyUSB3

ttyUSB image altttyUSB image alt

Then send AT commands.

Base HAT image altBase HAT image alt

To send commands using UART(ttyS0)


Enabling serial communication

  • Run sudo raspi-config
  • Select 5 Interfacing Options
  • Enable P5 I2C
  • For P6 Serial
  • Disable Login shell to be accessible over serial
  • Enable Serial port hardware
  • Finish
  • Reboot
  • Solder the HAT's UART.
  • Then type:
sudo minicom -b 115200 -D /dev/ttyS0

Setup Minicom

minicom -s

Help Menu

We can get help with the CTRL+A, Z like below.

Exit Minicom

To exit Minicom when in terminal mode press 'CTRL+A' to get a message bar at the bottom of the terminal window and then press 'X'.
